Mr. Lascelles, (Buckingham Palace) rang up

yesterday to say that Mr. Gilbert Ledward had asked

for an interview in connection with this statue.

Mr. Lascelles wished to know whether Mr. Ledward had

been commissioned to do it. I told Mr. Lascelles

that after considering the estimates of the

comparative cost of statues by Sir William Reid Dick

and by Mr. Ledward (of which I gave him particulars)

the Govt. of Hong Kong had decided to get Mr.

Ledward to do the statue.
